Which Macs are supported?

Daizip requires an Apple Silicon (M-series) Mac. The App Store edition supports macOS 14 or later. The current website edition (0.2.0) requires macOS 26 or later. Check Apple menu → About This Mac. There is no Intel Mac or Windows app. Standard ZIP archives created by Daizip can be opened with Windows File Explorer.

Installation and updates

For the App Store edition, open Daizip on the App Store and select Get. Availability depends on your Apple Account region and device compatibility. Install updates through the App Store.

For the website edition, download the DMG from the product page, open it, and copy Daizip to Applications. This edition uses Check for Updates in the Daizip menu and offers automatic update options. No separate archive engine or developer tools are needed.

Create, browse, test, and extract

  1. Open Create Archive and add files or folders. You can keep adding more to the existing list.
  2. Choose Create Archive, select a destination, and allow folder access when macOS asks.
  3. Use Open Archive (Command-O) to browse an archive, then Test Archive to check integrity.
  4. Choose Extract All and a destination. Output is placed in a new folder without overwriting existing output.

Version 0.2.0 uses Korean labels. English and a separate Settings entry are included in the upcoming 0.3.0 update; availability follows App Store approval.

Language and preferences in 0.3.0

The app follows your system language by default. Korean and English are supported; other languages fall back to English. Open Settings in the sidebar or press Command-comma to choose Follow System, Korean, or English. App screens and menus change immediately and your preferences are saved. File names and contents are not translated. Finder service names and some macOS-owned dialog controls follow macOS language settings.

Finder compression

Launch the installed app once, select files or folders in Finder, and choose Services → Compress to ZIP with Daizip. If the service is missing, check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services → Files and Folders. Labels can vary with macOS version and language.

The ZIP is created beside the selected items and a compact window shows progress. Its name comes from the first item supplied by Finder, which may differ from click order. Existing names receive a number such as “name (2).zip”. For items in different folders, add them inside Daizip and choose an output location.

Formats and limits

Create ZIP and 7z. Browse, test, and extract ZIP, 7z, RAR/RAR5, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, and TAR.XZ archives.

Password-protected archives, creating encrypted archives, split archives, selective extraction, ALZ, EGG, symbolic links, and special files are not supported. An operation supports up to 100,000 entries and 100 GiB of source or extracted data. Keep space available for working copies and output.

Windows filenames and performance

New ZIP filenames use composed Unicode (NFC), helping Korean names display correctly on Windows. To repair names in an archive made by another tool, create a new ZIP from the original files with Daizip. Source filenames and contents are not changed. Windows-incompatible names and case collisions are reported before compression.

Multicore performance depends on the format, compression level, number and size of files, and storage speed. Preparing working copies and verifying output also take time.

Privacy and licenses

Archive operations run locally. See the privacy policy. Open-source notices, 7-Zip licenses, corresponding source, and build instructions are bundled with the app. Sparkle and its license are included only in the website edition.
